Cape Town immediately activates load-shedding protection, concerned about Eskom’s sudden announcement

31 January 2025

Cape Town will immediately activate two stages of load-shedding protection until 22:00 tonight, with more protection planned for the weekend.

‘Cape Town will immediately activate two stages of load-shedding protection until 22:00 tonight, with more protection planned for the weekend.

‘Throughout the weekend, we will protect the city from at least one and sometimes two stages of load-shedding. Please monitor City social media and web channels for updates if Eskom's load-shedding persists.

'We are concerned about Eskom's sudden announcement. Blackouts have a huge economic impact, which is why we continue to build energy security in Cape Town through multi-billion rand grid investments and independent power purchases,’ said Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.

City customers load-shedding schedule
31 January 2025
Stage 1: 17:00 – 22:00
Stage 3: 22:00 – 06:00
Updates to follow.

Eskom’s load-shedding resumes at 17:00 this evening and is expected to carry on through the weekend.

The City will as always do all in its power to protect its customers as far as possible.
Load-shedding protection of up to two stages has been planned for where feasible.
It will be very helpful if our customers could reduce usage as this will help with the protection the City is able to give.

Please switch off non-essential appliances.
